Upon arrival at The Carlowrie Club, your Best of Scotland Experience begins as you are piped into the castle to be met with your favourite drink and a selection of Scottish sweet treats.
After time to settle in you will have the opportunity to get into the ‘swing’ of things on a specially created Driving Range on the Carlowrie Club grounds, with tuition from a PGA Professional available**
In the evening you will enjoy an 8 course Taste of Scotland sampling menu, curated especially for you by our award-winning Head Chef Iain MacDonald and his team. Each dish will be paired with a fine wine or prestige whisky, the selection curated and explained by our partners, Master of Wine Rose Murray-Brown and Stephen Rankin, Director of Prestige and fourth generation member of the Gordon & MacPhail family, the world’s foremost authority on Single Malt Scotch Whisky***.
Following dinner, Stephen will lead you in a very special sampling of some of the rarest and most prestigious Single Malt Whiskies in the world, worth several thousands of pounds. Especially for you and your party, each whisky has been selected to commemorate a year which is memorable to you, perhaps the year of your marriage, of your first born or when you stated your business. Stephen will regale you with anecdotes about not only why these years were so significant to each whisky, but with the events which shaped the whiskies, the world and you. To commemorate this evening, Stephen will also provide you with a keepsake to commemorate your Gordon & MacPhail ‘birthday’ and will offer his services as your personal ‘whisky concierge’ should you ever wish to track down and purchase a rare and prestige Single Malt Whisky.
**Tuition by the PGA Professional must be confirmed on or before the balance payment of your vacation experience.
***The specially curated Gordon & MacPhail Experience and Whisky Concierge service is available to guests of The Carlowrie Club through our association with Alba | Ás-Dùnach, the only Partner in Gordon & MacPhail’s more than 120-year history.
Muirfield Golf Club* (Handicap Required: Men – 18, Ladies – 36, Min Age: 16)
Muirfield GC plays a format of Fourballs in the morning and Foursomes (Alternate Shot) in the afternoon. You will have your choice of format, dependent on availability. Please advise at time of booking. Your choice of format will determine the itinerary of your day.
After a hearty breakfast you will be transferred by Range Rover to ‘Scotland’s Golf Coast’ – East Lothian – for an incredible experience at arguably the best of all Open Championship courses. Beginning with a chance to warm up on the practice range you will play Muirfield’s majestic links in Fourball format.
Following your morning round, you will enjoy golf’s best lunch in the historic and recently improved Clubhouse. A traditional three course lunch with carvery, the Muirfield lunch is a traditionally boozy affair with diners sat along two long tables. A Kummel in the lounge to round the experience off is a prerequisite. *
Your day starts in more leisurely fashion with a chance to practice on The Carlowrie Club’s on-site range or relax in the Castle and its grounds before the journey to Muirfield in time for the famous Muirfield lunch. There is no need to worry about the consumption of wine and Kummels at lunch prior to play, it is, indeed, common practice. You will then play the traditional afternoon Foursomes (Alternate Shot).
Following your Muirfield Experience you will be transferred the short journey through North Berwick to the NB Distillery, producers of the 2015 Best London Dry Gin in the world, rumoured favourite of Her Majesty The Queen, the only alcoholic beverage served during Her Majesty’s 90thBirthday Celebrations and also served at the 2018 Royal Wedding of HRH Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Here you will meet the rest of your party** and enjoy a truly exclusive, VIP experience. Met by owners Viv and Steve Muir, you will be greeted with a gin on arrival as you slip off your shoes and slip into slippers and robes for a relaxed and leisurely late afternoon or evening***. Steve and Viv will give you a private tour of the distillery, which now also produces vodka and rum and will soon distil Single Malt Whisky and will tell you of the history of NB Gin – named by Rolls Royce as one of the op 100 luxury brands in the world – and some royal anecdotes. You will then enjoy a fabulous fine dining dinner, paired with a selection of NB beverages.
After lunch NB Distillery’s expert mixologist will teach you how to make a selection of delicious Gin cocktails, with the vibe very much being cocktail party. Of course, an opportunity to shop will be made available, as will a truly exclusive opportunity, available only to The Carlowrie Club and members of our friends and associates at Alba | Ás-Dùnach (official Partner of NB Distillery), to be the first to buy the extremely limited production of NB Single Malt Whisky, which will not be available for public purchase, either in cask or bottle form. This prestigious opportunity will allow you to distil your very own cask, branded however you like it, and includes 10 years’ worth of incredible, money can’t buy experiences plus bottling and labelling (in your own branding).
